Additional Information: | Farm was originally in possession of the Wilbur Dudley family, although the 1906 plat map identifies their residence as located further to the west. Wilbur was from Connecticut and his wife, Marion from Massachusetts. By 1920, the farm was owned by the Lee family who were natives of Norway. 2015- "This two-story, side-gabled residence is sheathed with clapboard siding and features decorative bargeboards. The primary (east) elevation has a left-of-center entrance sheltered by a hood supported by large decorative brackets. A two-story, gabled-wing projects from the rear elevation. Fenestration consists of an assortment of modern and original, one-over-one and two-over-two, double-hung, wooden sash windows. Other buildings found on the propetty consist of a three-bay garage, a board-and-batten-sided shed, a smaller shed and the remnants of a rusticated, concrete block silo. Built circa 1900, the original occupant of the subject house is unclear. A building footprint appears in this location on a 1906 plat map as part of the 150-acre property of Wilbur I. Dudley; however, the location of Dudley's residence is identified further west. The propetty was owned by the Dudley family since at least 1880 and farmer Wilbur Dudley served as treasurer of the La Crosse County Agricultural Society in 1881. Wilbur was born in Connecticut, while his wife Marion was native to Massachusetts. In 1907, he was the president of the La Crosse County Bank of West Salem. Established in 1889 by Leonard Lottridge, the bank was sold toW. I. Dudley, L. C. Sander, and G. W. Dudley in the early 1900s. In 1907, it had capital and surplus of$36,000. By 1920, the subject property was owned by Christian and Marian Lee who both emigrated from Norway. Their farm is originally characterized as a "general farm" and later as a dairy farm." -"CTH M, CTH O (south) to CTH B (north)", WisDOT #5436-00-01, Prepared by Heritage Research, Ltd.
