Additional Information: | Commercial vernacular style building with a brick exterior and keystoned window arches. The Post Office Block is a two-story brick building with Italianate style details. The cornice is decorated with brick corbeling resembling brackets. The window openings on the second story are topped with pointed brick arches with keystones. The openings, themselves are partially enclosed. The storefront is mostly enclosed with vertical wood and small openings topped by a modern overhang. Historic post offices were usually located in commercial buildings and changed locations frequently. This was the first building constructed specifically erected to lease to the post office. The post office was located here until moving to another commercial building in 1893. It represents the growth and development of the post office in the city. |
