This large Wisconsin dairy barn has an L form, board siding, gambrel roof, and large sliding doors. The barn sits on a concrete foundation that is punctuated with simple sash windows. Three shed-roofed dormers project from the front facade roof. On one end of the barn is a hanging gable. Also on the property is a one and one-half story brick building with a gable roof, dormer, and two over two light double-hung sash windows. Attatched to the brick building is a long frame shed that has a gable roof and five garage-type doors.
ARCHITECTURAL/ENGINEERING SIGNIFICANCE
According to Wisconsin's CULTURE RESOURCE MANAGEMENT PLAN, the Wisconsin Dairy Barn was devloped and promoted by the University of Wisconsin in the late nineteeth centuryasassited by Wisconsin farmers to expand the dairy industry in the state. The Wisconsin Dairy Barn is a long, narrow barn with regularly spaced windows along the concrete foundation walls, a gambrel roof with ventilators, and two rows of stallsin the interior devided by a coridor. This barn has an L shape that is a frequently seen variation of the Wisconsin dairy barn. It is in excellent conditions and is part of the Milwaukee Area Technical College. |
