Additional Information: | This building is a two-story, three-storefront block constructed of red brick and accented with tan brick. The cornice features brick corbeling in a bracket and sawtooth pattern. The northern third of the building features an iron cornice that probably ran across the entire facade. The second story openings are decorated with segmental and pointed arches connected by a belt course. Belt courses decorate the area between the openings. Most of the openings are filled with modern single light sashes. The northern third of the building has single panes and the southern third has a large picture style opening. Recently, the modernized storefront of 119-121 N. Main has been renovated, along with the rest of the building, into a period storefront, greatly enhancing the appearance of the building. The northern third of the building has a brick storefront with modern show windows. The building contributes to the Main Street Historic District for its interesting Queen Anne influenced architecture. Since the renovation, the integrity of the building has greatly increased. The renovated part of the building was the home of the historically important Atkinson's Department Store, one of the city's important twentieth century commercial businesses. It contributes historically to the district for this reason. |
