Additional Information: | Prairie influence; battered corners. Adolph Hamilton had this home built in 1924. Hamilton was born in 1901 in Milwaukee and came to New London with his family in 1919. His father established the Hamilton Canning Company, which was nationally famous for making sauerkraut. In 1926, FE Lowell purchased the home. He started as the assistant superintendent of the Borden Company, eventually advancing to superintendent. GA Vandree then purchased the home in 1935 and lived there until his death in 1967. Vandree had started in the grocery store section of Margraff and Emde Department Store and ended his career as the owner of Vandree's Department Store located in the same building. |
