In 1923, Matt Heinz erected this building for his vulcanizing shop. Heinz also sold gas from a pump located on the sidewalk in front of his building. He and his wife, Clara, lived above the shop. On January 1, 1924, a major fire broke out, but it stopped at this building due to its fireproof construction. In 1926, another fire broke out and caused $8,000 in damages to Heinz's building and stock. He continued his vulcanizing building until 1948 when Donald Fuhrman opened a jewelry shop in the front portion of this building.

2020 - When originally surveyed, this AHI # included three properties, 214, 216 and 218 W North Water St. This AHI # is now devoted ONLY to 214 W. North Water St. 216 and 218 each now have their own AHI nos. Resurveyed. Update photo. Some changes to the fenestration on the first floor.
