Additional Information: | The Stein Brothers built a brick, two-story building at this location in 1874. Charles Doty supervised the brickwork. In its earlier years, it housed a grocery store and then a butcher shop. Charles Reuter operated his cigar factory in this building during the 1890s. In 1899, the building was lowered to make it even with the sidewalk, and in 1904, a show window was added. The first druggist to conduct business was Dukerschein. Jacob Werner and Norman Ortleib followed. In 1941, Adolph Pichelmeyer purchased the building and business and retired in 1977. Iver Rudy then leased the building until 1979 to a variety of businesses. The City of New London had the building torn down in 1995 to make room for Saint John's Park. 2020 - building no longer extant. |
