Additional Information: | Round portico. RE Kelly of Neenah, WI designed this home for Francis Werner. Werner graduated from University of Notre Dame and received his degree from the University of Wisconsin Law School. Upon returning to New London in 1935, he took a position with the Melchior Law offices. Shortly after, he opened his own office and worked there until his retirement in 1995. Werner married Phyllis Graham in 1937. Together they had one daughter and three sons. He entered the US Navy as a commissioned lieutenant, junior grade in 1944, serving his country until 1946. Besides their home here, they owned a vacation property on the Chain O'Lakes in Waupaca and a home in Naples, Florida. It has been rumored that John F. Kennedy also visited this home during his stop at Washington High School. However, Phyllis Werner stated this is incorrect as Francis was a staunch Republican. |
