Additional Information: | Brackets; side bay, cupola. This house was built by Amos Webber and was sold to his parents-in-law, Ira Sr. and Sarah Millard. Ira was one of the founders of New London. This home stayed in the Millard family until 1943. The name "Culver House" originated when local newspaper articles dubbed it so in the 1970s after Mary Jane and Gordon Culver, who owned it at the time. Mrs. Culver purchased a dining room chandelier in Norway, according to a Post-Crescent newspaper article. The chandelier was made to replace a fixture at Drottningholm castle; however, the Culvers convinced the company to sell one to them and build another for the castle. The chandelier has since been removed. |
