Additional Information: | 1993: This gabled ell residence consists of a two-story main block and a one and one-half story wing. The walls are clad in aluminum siding with a standing seam metal covered roof. The shed-roofed front porch has been enclosed and a shed-roofed entryway has been added to the front of the porch. A shed-roofed addition has also been appended to the rear of the structure as well. The only original outbuildings remaining are the horizontal plain drop sided pig shed and clapboard clad milkhouse on the opposite side of Kester Road. Newer outbuildings include a garage, shed, and machine shed. The structure was built c. 1881 for J. Wakefield. Wakefield was a local leader for Fremont Township, serving as the first elected school clerk. In addition, he was a District Attorney and a Member of Assembly for the First District. He was elected secretary and historian of the Old Settlers Society for Waupaca County. As such, he authored History of Waupaca County, Wisconsin. After the turn of the century the farmstead was owned sequentially by A. Strinker, H. Borchart and John Hatfield, who established the Maple Lawn Diary, before being purchased by the present owner. |
