NOTES
Additional Information:Tax rolls suggest that while something was on the parcel earlier, it appears that construction of the subject building (or its improvement to what stands there today) occurred between 1912 and 1913. While the Joseph Vogel Brewing Company is cited as the owner in both the 1911 and 1912 tax rolls, by 1913, the name of George Sick has been written in. A 1915 plat map continues to identify the parcel as under the ownership of Vogl’s Independent Brewing Company, which was located in South Germantown. As of 1916, Vogl’s South Germantown operations had been taken over by the Germantown Spring Brewery & Soda Company. By the 1918 tax roll, Luke N. Reuter is identified as the owner of the parcel; indeed, he is identified in the 1920 census as a bartender in a saloon in the Town of Mequon. By the early 1920s, the property was purchased by Bohemia-born John Wuerl, who operated a restaurant and saloon on the premises until at least 1939. The property was sold in 1944 by Pauline Buchi to Ted Jamieson. In 1963, the business was known as Steer ‘n Stein; however, more recently, it served as Mille’s Spaghetti Factory. In 2005, it was purchased by Andy Sylke and Mark Feilen and operated as Taylor & Dunn’s, a restaurant and Irish pub, until its 2016 purchase by Finbar and Gloria MacCarthy. The restaurant and bar continues to maintain the Irish pub atmosphere and is known as Finn McGoo’s.
