Additional Information: | Pictured in Sherwood's book (1893), Sherman's home displays both Italianate and Classical features, including a low hipped roof, bracketed eaves, and a projecting central pavilion. A fence, a remnant of earlier years, encircles the property. One of Brodhead's earliest settlers, James T. Sherman, was co-owner of the first mercantile firm of the city, Sherman, Clinton & Co. The 1884 history of Green County reported that Sherman, born in New Haven, Connecticut, was a great grandson of Roger Sherman of "continental and Revolutionary fame." |
