Additional Information: | A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, State Historic Preservation Office. Addition on north side of building was constructed in 1913. Stained glass windows were added in 1911 along with new pews. Basement was dug in 1966. The Congregational Church is a small frame structure with a central tower. Its main entrance is framed by a gabled entrance porch supported by columns. The First Congregational Society of Brodhead was established in 1856 soon after the city was platted Meetings of the Society were held in various places until 1861 when the church building was constructed. Several prominent Brodhead citizens were members of this church including J.T. Sherman and E.D. Clinton. Also this is the only congregation in Brodhead which has remained in its original building. |
