Additional Information:A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, State Historic Preservation Office. This raceway features a rectangular shaped plan configuration and a concrete foundation, exterior, and trim. Description of Complex: The Wild Rose State Fish Hatchery (20 10E-24) is located just north of Wild Rose, in Waushara County. The hatchery is the Wisconsin DNR's largest cold water fish hatchery. With both cold and cool water capabilities, the Wild Rose Hatchery is able to raise a variety of fish including brown trout, chinook salmon, northern pike, muskelunge, walleye, suckers, and sturgeon. The complex consists of numerous buildings. Among them, a residence (10/17, 1938), an egg house (10/5, 1937), a meat house (10/6, 1929), two garages (10/7, 10/22, 1930 and 1935), an inforation booth (10/8, 1937), a mess hall (10/13, 1938), a wood storage shack (10/24, 1938), a metal storage shack (11/2, 1931), raceways (10/10, 10/20, circa 1938), as well as a raceway feeding shack (10/15, 1938). Most of the buildings are cream buff colored drop siding or clapboard with burnt ocre wood trim materials. The buildings that are open to the public are in excellent condition, but the buildings that service the complex are in poor condition. The residence is in excellent condition, as is the raceway system. The complex is being considerd as a potential Historic District.
