THE FACADE TERMINATES IN A SIMPLE PARAPET. THE STRUCTURE WAS BUILT BETWEEN 1891 AND 1893, AND IS NOW IN FAIR CONDITION. (B) HISTORICAL STATEMENT: THE OSHKOSH TENT AND AWNING COMPANY WAS FOUNDED IN 1876 UNDER ANOTHER, FORGOTTEN, NAME. IN 1910, IT WAS PURCHASED BY JOHN ABRAMS AND RECEIVED ITS CURRENT NAME. IT PURCHASED THE PRESENT PLANT IN 1914. OSHKOSH TENT AND AWNING, WITH ITS PREDECESSOR, HAS BEEN AN ACTIVE INDUSTRY IN THE CITY FOR MORE THAN A CENTURY; HOWEVER, OTHER THAN FOR ITS LONGEVITY, IT HAS NOT BEEN A SIGNIFICANT PART OF THE COMMUNITY'S DEVELOPMENT. PAST OWNERS OF THE BUILDING INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING: GILLEN'S LAUNDRY, WHO CONDUCTED BUSINESS THERE IN C. 1892 TO AN UNSPECIFIED DATE, AND OSHKOSH TENT AND AWNING, WHO HAS RUN THEIR INDUSTRY THERE FROM 1914 TO THE PRESENT DAY.
