NOTES
Additional Information:SEE HAER FORM. OAHP INVENTORY (07/1981): This cheese factory was probably constructed around 1905 by Mr. William Manley who owned and operated a cheese and butter factory on this site from 1905-1915. In 1916 the plant was qurchased by Mr. C. W. Puls who discontinued butter production in 1920, eventually selling the plant to Mr. Otto Kroger in 1925. The plant was later owned by Mr. Otto Yordi (1931-1941). Mr. Edwin Wohlt (1941-1949) and Mr. Homer Schmidt (1950-1965) among others. With the exception of some butter - produced during the early years of operation - the Stephensville Cheese Factory has produced cheddar cheese exclusively. The existing structure reflects an additive development, with the older structures to the west - constructed of rock faced ashlar, shingle siding, and brick - receiving additions to the east constructed of more recent materials. Raised seam roofing, block and tile stacks, cinder block glass block windows, and poured concrete. The structure has gabled, shed and flat roofs and an irregular plan occupying a site measuring approximately 70' x 90'.
