Additional Information:SEE HAER REPORT. (A.) Date of construction estimate is based on the first division of land for this parcel (.64A), see tax rolls Hortonia Township Sectionn 6 (1895). (B.) The plant may have been known as West Hortonia prior to 1915. The first official documentation appears in The State of Wisconsin Dairy Statistics for 1913, State Historical Society, Madison, WI. OAHP INVENTORY (08/1981): This cheese factory may have been constructed as early as 1890 by Mr. John Cannon, and subsequently owned by Mr. M. F. Reilly (1895-1898) the Dabareiner Co. (1899-1900) and Mr. Emil Enidde and Mr. Frank Kliener (1905-1910). The West Hortonica Cheese Factory first appears under that name in 1913 and was owned by Mr. Kohl-Meier. In 1920 the factory was operated by Mr. Edwin Mienhart until its sale in 1931 to Mr. Harry Pankow the operation closed its doors in 1960 and is currently used for residential purposes. The original "core" of the plant consists of gabled two and single story structures with a flat roofed receiving area and boiler room, measuring approximately 80' x 60'.
