| Additional Information: | "Circa 1840. Italianate Commercial. Site of Buell's Carriage and Implements manufactory, and Short's Livery Stable." A Walking Tour of Olde Lake Geneva Towne, The Lake Geneva Plaque and Walking Tour Commission, 1993. 2024 - This Commercial Vernacular style building was constructed circa 1840. It is located on a corner lot, with the primary elevation facing south. The three-story mass in the center, believed to be the original building at this site, features stucco cladding and a low slope hipped roof with wide overhanging eaves. Earlier multi-paned windows on the second and third stories have been replaced with modern aluminum windows, and the building’s façade has been enhanced with Neoclassical detailing. A one-story, flat roof mass, also clad in stucco, was added to the southern elevation of the three-story block at an unknown date. Large aluminum display windows with shed-roof metal awnings flank either side of a central entrance. The 1840 building has been connected to a two-story building to the northeast via a series of additions. These additions are all stucco-clad and feature flat roofed eaves with stepped cornices, large display windows, and limited architectural detailing. A parking area and terrace are located in the southeast ell formed by the 1840 mass and its additions. |
