NOTES
Additional Information:A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, State Historic Preservation Office. This two story Greek Revival styled retail building features a brick and stone foundation, a brick exterior, a stone trim, and a gabled roof with a deck. The building was clapboarded originally (there is an old postcard picture of the original house, featuring stone sills, and clapboard siding). Flanking a balustraded rooftop deck are two corbelled chimneys. At the side elevation is a large attic story pediment. Some of the windows are arranged two-over-two with brick lintels and projecting sills. A flat roofed wing in the front has windows with twelve-over-six panes as a well as a side bay window. Fluted columns support a flat roofed front porch. The altered building is in excellent condition. The Mill Race House was used as a residence in the 1840's. O'Brien was the original owner, and G. W. Warren was an individual associated with the house in 1842. Later in the 1950's, the building was known as the Mill Race Guest House, and was then used as such. [A].
