Additional Information:ARCHITECTURAL STATEMENT: THIS OUTSTANDING ITALIANATE HOUSE IS A CUBICAL STURCTURE WITH EACH ELEVATION TOPPED BY A BROAD GABLE. THE FRONT FACADE CONTAINS THREE WIDELY SPACED WINDOWS, THIS RHYTHM IS ACCENTUATED BY THE ARCADE OF THE FRONT PORCH. ELABORATELY CURVED BRACKETS DECORATE THE FRIEZE AND PORCH; ADDITIONAL CARVING APPEARS IN THE SPANDREL AREA OF THE PORCH ARCHES. A BELVEDERE COMPLETES THE COMPOSITION, REPEATING THE ROOF LINE OF THE MAIN HOUSE. THIS HOUSE IS SIGNIFICANT AS AN EXAMPLE OF THE ITALIANATE STYLE AND BECAUSE OF ITS FINE CRAFTSMANSHIP. THE HOUSE IS SITUATED ON A LARGE LOT ENHANCED BY A MASSIVE OAK TREE. HISTORICAL STATEMENT: ABRAHAM BRIGGS BOWEN WAS ONE OF THE PIONEERS IN FOND DU LAC BEFORE MOVING TO OSHKOSH CIRCA 1856. HE WAS INVOLVED IN THE LUMBER INDUSTRY AND LAND SPECULATION WHILE A RESIDENT OF THE CITY FROM 1856 TO HIS DEATH IN 1882.
