Additional Information: | This 2-story Italianate building was constructed c.1870 with a 1-story, flat-roofed storefront addition completed in 1941. It is irregular in plan with brick veneer and aluminum siding and an asphalt-shingled hipped roof with overhanging eaves and a wide cornice board with decorative brackets. The front elevation faces north and is asymmetrical in composition with the 1941 storefront addition projecting from the face of the original building and extending east beyond the eastern edge of the original building. The storefront addition is clad in brick veneer (added sometime after 1977) with aluminum siding along its upper third; the addition contains a bank of shop windows and a recessed door at its eastern end and three evenly-spaced 1-over-1 windows along the remainder of its façade. Above this, the second-story of the original building is clad in vinyl or aluminum and contains three small 1-over-1 windows in arched recesses (these have been downsized from the original window size). A gablet projecting from the center of the front roof slope contains a round window at its center. The building served as a residence and as the offices of the Kiel National Zeitung newspaper. |
