Additional Information: | School District No. 1 constructed a non-extant schoolhouse during the late 1840s. A new brick schoolhouse was completed, replacing the earlier building, in 1871. After a number of modernizing improvements, mainly to the interior, the school closed in the mid-twentieth century. Today the building serves as the Koshkonong Town Hall and Administrative Building. A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the State Historical Society, Division of Historic Preservation. 2017- "The Koshkonong District No. I School is a Front Gable brick building, built in I871. A side-gabled, brick-veneered addition dating to 1985 was likely erected for the current use as the Koshkonong Town hall. It is appended to the rear of the south side facade. The school sits on a stone foundation, while the addition rests on a concrete slab. Standing-seam metal roofs are found on both sections. A gabled belfry perches on the roof ridge toward the rear of the school. The front facade of the school is symmetrical about a central entrance. The front door is surmounted by a two-pane transom, set in a segmental-arched opening. A front-gabled entry porch with wooden posts shelters the entrance. One-over-one replacement windows in reduced, round-arched openings flank the porch. Above, a boarded oculus can be seen in the gable end. The school is trimmed with simple cornice boards. A concrete ramp leads up to the door addition. A shed roof attached to the side of the school covers the ramp." -"USH 12: CTH M to Buckingham Rd", WisDOT#3575-03-01, Prepared by CORRE, Inc.
