Additional Information: | Rising one and one half stories, this Craftsman styled chapel features a cobblestone foundation, and an asphalt shingled gable roof. The exterior walls include such materials as stucco on the first story, wood shingles in the upper front gable, and stone and cobblestone beneath the waterline. Large braces offer support and a bargeboard offers detail on the wide, overhaning eaves of the street-facing open gable end. These eaves flair slightly and contain exposed rafter ends on the side elevations. The gabled entrance bay mimics the design of the larger gable in that it too has braces, a bargeboard and exposed rafter ends. The church is intact and in good condition. The St. Benedict Catholic Church maintained its congregation at this site from 1916 to 1961. [A]. This church is related to the St. Benedict Catholic Church Parish Hall, also located on Third Avenue. (WL 41/28). |
