NOTES
Additional Information:2023: The two-story William Frink Blacksmith Shop, built c.1840, has a rectangular plan, stone foundation, stone wall material, and flat roof with a parapet along the front (east) facade and side (north) elevation. Wood trim extends along the facade and side elevation above the windows. The facade has a recessed entryway and a glass and wood-paneled door with a sidelight and transom. The entrance is flanked on both sides by fixed picture windows with fabric awnings above. A second-story door is flanked by one-over-one, double-hung windows. The north elevation has three fixed storefront windows on the first story and an additional fixed window. The second story of the north elevation has three one-over-one, double-hung windows. The rear (west) elevation has a wood-paneled door. Four one-over-one, double-hung windows are also present on the rear elevation. All windows feature stone lintels and sills. The building also features a brick chimney. Alterations include infilled and replacement windows, replacement doors, and removal of a second-story balcony on the facade. 1997: "In 1844, Samuel Kelsey built a stone structure on the corner of Galena and Water for a blacksmith and wagon shop. The upper floor was used for storage. Through the years is has had many uses and many owners. About 1910 it was acquired by George Mockler who converted the second floor into living quarters. It has been used as a furniture store, a grocery store, a saloon, an electric shop, a dress shop and the U.S. Post Office (1923-1943). The upstairs served as a chiropractic office and residence from 1938 to 1941. It is currently a retail office. The building had a cupola ca. 1850.
