Additional Information: | A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, Division of Historic Preservation. The two-story ell-type residence is covered entirely with clapboard, rests on a coursed, cut stone foundation and is topped with an asphalt-sheathed, gabled roof. A screened porch featuring carved woodwork is located within the northeast corner. The few alterations include a historic garage addition (formerly a coal and wood shed) in the northwest corner and a six foot addition to the bathroom on the west wall. Interior alterations include kitchen modernization (exclusive of the original cabinetry); conversion of the former summer kitchen to a family room; and first floor bathroom remodeling. A large barn with drop-siding is also located on the parcel. The residence was constructed by Frank (and Mary LeFevre) Bowe, a prominent Rosendale citizen, in ca. 1879. His father, Anson H. Bowe was one of Rosendale's first settlers, in addition to serving as the village's first physician. The younger Bowe sat on both Springvale's and Rosendale's town boards, respectively, and he also he ran an insurance business for 32 years. |
