Additional Information: | BRACKETED CORNICE, ORIEL ON SIDE. BUILDING HAS NOW (2008) BEEN RESIDED IN STUCCO, THE FIRST STORY STOREFRONT HAS BEEN PARTIALLY ALTERED, AND ALL THE FIRST STORY WINDOW AND DOOR OPENINGS ON THE EAST-FACING SIDE ELEVATION HAVE ALSO BEEN EITHER ALTERED OR FILLED IN. 2008- "This previously surveyed, two-story-tall, rectilinear plan Commercial Vernacular form building occupies the southwest corner that was formed by the intersection of W. Main St. with Fish St. and its symmetrical main fagade faces north onto W. Main St. Originally, the first story of this fagade contained a single large storefront that was composed of a deeply inset centered entrance door flanked on either side by canted display windows, and this entrance was flanked in its turn by two larger display windows. Now, however, all of these elements have been altered and the storefront's only original remaining elements are its cast iron supporting posts and the original lintel that spans the entire storefront. In addition, the walls of this building, which were originally clad in brick, have now been completely reclad in stucco. Today, the surviving original features of the building include the original bracketed wood or metal cornice that crowns its north and east-facing elevations, its second story window openings, which have decorative lintels, and a small polygonal plan second story oriel bay window that is located on the east-facing side elevation of the building." -"Waunakee 7.5 Quad", WisDOT#5290-01-02, Prepared by Timothy F. Heggland, (2008). |
