Additional Information: | "The congregation was organized in the Lower Big Creek School in the Town of Burns by Rev. J. C. Caldwell of West Salem. Joining with those like religion from Bangor and Rockland, the established the Presbyterian Church. First meeting in the Baptist Church in Bangor, with Rev. Mr. Smith from La Crosse, they called for subscriptions to build the church. Prior to that time, the Presbyterians met in the Grange Hall in the E. R. Roberts grain warehouse. The United Presbyterian Women organized in 1881. Making money at 10 cents a meal, oyster suppers, basket socials and meetings- 10 cents to belong, they voted to buy an organ for the church. This was before the church was built. A number of members working together built the sheds to protect teams during the winter. The present church was built in 1884." -"Village of Bangor History & Directory", prepared by the Bangor and Area Historical Society, Inc. |
