Additional Information: | THIS ONE-STORY COMMERCIAL VERNACULAR STYLED BUILDING WAS CONSTRUCTED IN THE EARLY 1940'S. (SEE BIB. REF. A). IT FEATURES A RECTANGULAR SHAPED PLAN CONFIGURATION, A STONE FOUNDATION, A STONE AND BRICK EXTERIOR, A WOOD TRIM AND A FLAT ROOF. GLASS BLOCKS SURROUND ONE OF THE MAIN ENTRANCES, AND A TRANSOM WINDOW APPEARS ABOVE EACH FRONT DOOR. THE WINDOWS ON THE BUILDING ARE ALUMINUM. THE WESTERN HALF AND THE BRICK FRONT WERE ADDED TO A SMALL, ONE-STORY, STONE BLACKSMITH SHOP IN THE 1940'S. (SEE BIB. REF. B). A CONTEMPORARY BRICK AND CONCRETE ADDITION WAS MADE AT AN UNSPECIFED DATE. THE BUILDING IS IN GOOD CONDITION. THIS BUILDING WAS HISTORICALLY KNOWN AS THE GEORGE MASTEN BLACKSMITH SHOP (SEE BIB. REF. A), THE MINERAL POINT BOTTLING WORKS (SEE BIB. REF. B), AND THE GROTH AND NOBLE BOTTLING WORKS (SEE BIB. REF. B). THE STRUCTRE HOUSED A BOTTLING PLANT IN THE 1940'S. (SEE BIB. REF. B). THIS BUILDING WAS DESIGNATED LOCALLY, BECOMING PART OF THE MINERAL POINT LANDMARK DISTRICT IN 1972. 2012- "The underlying stone building which dates from at least 1872, was a blacksmith ship until it was remodeled and reworked in the present configuration in the 1940s. Businesses at this location were George Masten's Blacksmith Shop; Mineral Point Bottling Works; Groth and Noble Bottling Works; Veterinary Office; Magnetic Sign Sales; and Soda Pop Antiques." -from "A Field Guide to Mineral Point" by Nancy Pfotenhauer of the Mineral Point Historical Society, 1st Edition, 2012, Little Creek Press. |
