| Additional Information: | Altered first story. 2023: This property consists of three buildings that have functioned as a single building (on a single parcel with shared interior space) since at least 1900. At the western end of the complex is a 2-story Front Gabled mass that was built in 1867 and originally served as a residence that was converted to a grocery store early in its history; east of this, at the center of the complex is a 1-story, flat-roofed mass that was built at approximately the same time as the western mass and served as a butcher shop adjoining the grocery store; at the eastern end of the complex is a 2 ½ story, flat-roofed commercial building with Italianate detailing that was built c.1895 to serve as an extension of the grocery/butcher shop complex with cold storage space at its lower level. All three building masses are of brick construction and share a single metal awning that spans the width of all three buildings. Below the awning, the wall has been clad in vinyl or clapboard with replacement shop windows and recessed entrances in each building mass. The second story of the western mass contains three 1-over-1 windows with wood lintels (one of which is missing); above this is an unornamented wood cornice board located below modestly overhanging eaves. The second story of the eastern mass contains a central window opening that contains a pair of single-pane replacement windows with a boarded-over transom above. Above this is a decorative band of brick detailing featuring a pointed arch arcade; two round window openings are located above this with a more modest band of brick detailing capping the building mass below the roofline. |
