NOTES
Additional Information:THIS TWO STORY AUTOMOBILE SHOWROOM WAS CONSTRUCTED IN 1916. (SEE BIB. REF. A). IT FEATURES A RECTANGULAR SHAPED PLAN CONFIGURATION, A CONCRETE FOUNDATION, A BRICK EXTERIOR, CONCRETE TRIM AND A METAL COVERED FLAT ROOF. CONCRETE LINTELS AND COPING ADORN THE WINDOWS. AN EXTERIOR WOODEN STAIRCASE ON THE WEST SIDE LEADS TO THE SECOND STORY; THIS SECOND STORY WAS ORIGINALLY OCCUPYED BY A SOCIAL HALL KNOWN AS THE POINT CHALET. THIS STRUCTURE WAS BUILT ON THE SITE OF LANYON BROTHERS FOUNDRY. (SEE BIB. REF. B). THE BUILDING IS IN GOOD CONDITION.

THIS STRUCTURE WAS KNOWN HISTORICALLY BY DIFFERENT NAMES THROUGH THE YEARS, INCLUDING THE AUTO INN, VIVIANS GARAGE, ENGLES CHEVEROLET AND PONTIAC GARAGE (SEE BIB. REF. A), AND POINT CHALET CLUB (SEE BIB. REF.B). THE BUILDING FUNCTIONED AS A GARAGE FROM 1916 TO 1929. (SEE BIB. REF. A). THE RISE OF COMMERCE IN MINERAL POINT IS ASSOCIATED WITH THE CONSTRUCTION OF THIS BUILDING (SEE BIB. REF. A), WHICH WAS DESIGNED BY HENRY KLEINHAMMER. (SEE BIB. REF. C).

THE BUILDING WAS DESIGNATED LOCALLY, BECOMING PART OF THE MINERAL POINT LANDMARK DISTRICT IN 1972.
