NOTES
Additional Information:A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, State Historic Preservation Office. Intact example of a commercial warehouse featuring projected brick pilasters between bays. Northern Wisconsin Produce Company's original site opened in 1908 on the northeast corner of S. 6th and Quay Streets in a cold storage building previously owned by the Northern Grain Company. In 1925, their new warehouse and cold storage plant, which was built by Schuette Construction Company, opened on Clark Street. At the same time, due to provisions of the law, company officials organized a separate company, Manitowoc Refrigerating Company, to operate the refrigerating business in the Clark Street plant. Temp-Controld Storage took over the Manitowoc Refrigerating Company by 1966. As of 2018, Northern Wisconsin Produce Company is owned and operated by fourth generation members of the Lindemann family, descendants of Gustave Lindemann, one of the company's original founders, as a cheese and cold storage business.
