Additional Information: | The Wisconsin Aluminum Foundry Company was founded by Abraham Schwartz in 1912 as a successor to the county's first brass foundry, Manitowoc Brass Foundry Company. This original company was founded in 1909. The aluminum foundry had started doing castings for three major accounts, Harley-Davidson, Wisconsin Motors and Evinrud Outboard. It also started a brass and bronze foundry in the mid-1920's which primarily served Manitowoc Shipbuilding Company. The company is still in the Schwartz family. 1. Story of a Century, p. 68; telephone interview with Bernard Schwartz of the company, July 15, 1986. |
