NOTES
Additional Information:Altered roundhead windows wide cornice.
This house was previously surveyed in 1985 on the Manitowoc Intensive Survey Map as 35/21. Since that time, the house has been re-sided with vinyl siding (it was previously covered with clapboard).

July 2005-This two-story gabled ell rises from a brick foundation; it is comprised of a two-story main block that faces west and a two-story ell that extends to the north. Covered with vinyl, this house features a main entrance along the front (west) facing block that has long since lost its porch. A two light transom is located above the door. A pair of segmental-arched windows occupy the space to the south of the entry, while a pair of the same windows are located along the second level. A three-sided bay extends from the south wall of the main block. Windows through the remainder of the home are either segmental-arch or rectangular, one-over-one-light, double-hung sash examples.

Built in circa 1890, the original owner of this home was William Rathsack. Rathsack was born in Germany in 1848 and immigrated to the United States with his family at the age of six. After working at various jobs in the city and learning the associated trades, Rathsack opened his own hardware store in 1893. Prior to 1910, he retired and turned over his business to his sons, the firm of which was then known as William Rathsack Sons Co. The Rathsack family maintained ownership of the home until at least 1955. The current owners are Thomas Munch and Rachel Miller.
Bibliographic References:(A) County Tax Rolls. Assessor's records note a date of 1893, while a previous intensive survey cites a date of 1890; the Sanborn maps indicate that the home was indeed built between 1887 and 1894. "Wm. Rathsack Sr. city Pioneer Dead at age 73." Manitowoc Herald, 23 June 1921.
