Additional Information: | From the Madison Intensive Survey Report: "The partnership of James O. Gordon and Frederick W. Paunack began in January of 1892. Gordon had been in business in Madison as a an architect for two years at that time. The firm proved to be one of Madison's most successful architectural firms during the boom growth period of the turn of the century. The association lasted until four months before Paunack's early death in 1904. For those four months, Paunack was in association with a cousin. Gordon then practiced with his son, James C. Gordon, in the firm of James O. Gordon and Son. In an article from 1899, the firm was said to have made a specialty of residences., The know designs for which Gordon and Pauncak were responsible constitute one of Madison's largest identified bodies of work from the period." Newspaper: The Baraboo Republic Date: August 22, 1894 Page number: 2 Article: A NEW RESIDENCE Contract Let for a Fine Residence for C. A. Carpenter "Wednesday afternoon the contract for a $4,000 residence for Conductor C. A. Carpenter was awarded to Graf & Netcher. The house will be erected after plans drawn by Gordon & Panneck, of Madison, and will be something entirely different from any house in Baraboo. The site for Mr. Carpenter's residence is on the north side of Second street, in Peck's sub-division, and when erected will cover the only vacant lot on the north side of Second street in this new division. The contract was let about noon and before six o'clock the work had been begun and will not be stopped until everything is completed. T. Finnegan will do the foundation work and Marriott Bros. will furnish it with a Perfect Oval Furnace." |
