Additional Information: | A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, State Historic Preservation Office. The photo codes are 10-30/4, 10-30/5, 10-30/6. Architectural historians have yet to determine when or for whom this house was originally built, since it predates city building-permit requirements. Among its many dramatic changes, the house once stood about fifty feet to the northeast, facing West Lisbon Avenue. In 1897, when North Thirty-Second Street bisected the original site, the house was moved to its present location. A nineteenth-century photograph reveals that the structure started out as a High Victorian Gothic style frame, probably built around 1881. When the house was moved, architect F. W. Andree’s extensive remodeling converted the facade details and exterior ornament to the Colonial Revival style. Note especially the full-facade porch with Ionic columns, a round pediment, and a balustraded roof-deck. |
