Additional Information: | This former stables building is handsomely ornamented by some Germanic Renaissance touches which give it something of the air of a castle with its crenalated parapet and corner battlements which are extended to ground level. The center of the parapet wall is stepped up and a plaque with the legend "Wm. Rahr and Sons Co." set in terra cotta. Below that, in line with the second floor windows, is the grouping "Pharoah's Horse" in terra cotta which is also found on the Kunz-Bleser stable at 911 Marshall Street (MN48-20). All windows have a cut stone lintel and are of uniform size on the second floor but alternate large and small on the first. The main entrance is on the south facade. The elevation of the groud sl;opes to the north reveling a fine cut limestone foundation which is fully exposed at the north end. This building is the only one in the complex still owned by the Rahr Malting Company, now of Minneapolis, Minnesota. |
