Additional Information:THIS TWO STORY, COMMERCIAL VERNACULAR AND ITALIANATE BUILDING FEATURES A RECTANGULAR SHAPED PLAN CONFIGURATION, A STONE FOUNDATION, A WOOD (SIDED) EXTERIOR, A WOOD TRIM AND A FLAT ROOF. A BAY WINDOW APPEARS ON THE SECOND STORY. A BRACKETED CORNICE, METAL ONE-OVER-ONE WINDOWS, AND A SHED ROOFED, TWO-STORY ADDITION ON THE NORTH SIDE ARE ALSO PRESENT IN THE ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN. THIS BUILDING, CONSTRUCTED IN 1900 (SEE BIB. REF. A), IS IN GOOD CONDITION. IT WAS EXTENSIVELY REMODELED AROUND 1982 IN ORDER SO THAT IT MAY BE ADAPTED TO ITS NEW USE IN THE RETAIL BUSINESS.

IN 1908, THIS STRUCTURE HOUSED A LIVERY. BY 1917, IT WAS KNOWN AS THE JAMES PENBERTHY LIVERY STABLE AND HOTEL. (SEE BIB. REF. A). IN 1924, THE NAME OF THE BUILDING CHANGED TO PENBERTHY GARAGE. (SEE BIB. REF. B). THE LIVERY STABLE WAS IN BUSINESS FROM 1900 TO 1915. (SEE BIB. REF. A). THE GARAGE WAS IN BUSINESS UNTIL 1929. (SEE BIB. REF. A).

2012- "James Penberth was born in Wisconsin to parents who emigrated from Cornwall. This site is notable for another Cornishman, Abner Nichols, one of Mineral Point's earliest settlers and one of the first from Cornwall. Nichols was here by 1828 and operated the well known "Mansion House" a popular gathering spot for travelers and local residents.

Businesses in this building were James Penberthy Livery; Palace Livery & Garage; Penberthy Garage; Ballack's Ford Dealership; Livery Antiques; and Serendipity and Antiques."
