NOTES
Additional Information:THIS TWO STORY BUILDING FEATURES A STONE FOUNDATION, A STONE EXTERIOR, A WOOD TRIM AND A SHINGLED, GABLE ROOF. LOCATED ON THE SECOND STORY ABOVE THE WINDOWS ARE WOODEN LINTELS ORNAMENTED WITH INTERESTING NOTCHES. VERY IRREGULAR BLOCKS COMPOSE THE SOUTH FACE. ORIGINALLY, THIS STRUCTURE WAS THREE STORIES TALL WITH A FLAT ROOF AND A STONE EXTERIOR. TWO STORES HAD ONCE OCCUPIED THE GROUND FLOOR. PEDIMENTED WINDOW HEADS ADORNED THE OPENINGS ON THE SECOND FLOOR AND A CORNICE APPEARED ON THE THIRD FLOOR. THE THIRD STORY AND WINDOW EMBELLISHMENTS WERE REMOVED IN THE 1930'S. (SEE BIB. REF. E). REMODELING ALSO OCCURRED AT THIS TIME. (SEE BIB. REF. D). PRESENTLY, THIS BUILDING IS IN GOOD CONDITION.

THIS STRUCTURE WAS KNOWN HISTORICALLY AS THE WILLIAM LANYON BUILDING -- A MILL, WHICH OPERATED IN 1857 (SEE BIB. REF. A). IT WAS ALSO KNOWN AS THE T. R. CLAUER DRY GOODS AND GROCERY STORE, WHICH CONDUCTED BUSINESS IN 1869. (SEE BIB. REF. B).

2012- "Built by William Lanyon in 1857 for use as a steam powered flour mill, which operated for two years. After the mill closed, the building was used by Lanyon's sons as a warehouse. William Lanyon, who came to Mineral Point from Cornwall, hasd earlier built a foundry and machine shop a short distance to the south. Originally three stories tall, the top floor and window ornaments were removed in the 1930s.

Other businesses here were Tom Collin's grocery; Collins & Kane, grocers; Peter's Grocery; the Mineral point Steam Laundry; Staber's Appliance; Rupp's Appliance; Russell Dairy; Knudson Motor Service; Walrack Motors; and the Mineral Point Hotel."
