Additional Information:THIS BUILDING IS A PREFABRICATED GAS STATION PRODUCED BY MILCOR STEEL BUILDING COMPANY OF MILWAUKEE. IT IS REPUTED TO BE MINERAL POINT'S FIRST FILLING STATION. THE WINONA OIL COMPANY STATION IS ITS PRESENT NAME. ACCORDING TO THE INVENTORY CARD, THE EXTERIOR WALLS ARE COVERED IN SHEET METAL, GIVING IT AN ALL STEEL CONSTRUCTION.

THIS PARAGRAPH CONTAINS INFORMATION OBTAINED FROM A REPORT OF AN INTENSIVE SURVEY CONDUCTED ON THIS PROPERTY IN 1982. MEDITERRANEAN REVIVAL IN STYLE, THIS FILLING STATION FEATURES A RECTANGULAR SHAPED PLAN CONFIGURATION, A WOOD EXTERIOR, A WOOD TRIM AND A PSEUDO-SPANISH-TILED HIP ROOF. LARGE BRACKETS APPEAR UNDER THE WIDE, OVERHANING EAVES. A TRANSOM WINDOW ADORNS THE DOUBLE LEAFED FRONT DOOR. TRANSOM LIGHTS ARE ALSO DESIGNED ABOVE SLENDER, PAIRED WINDOWS. THIS BUILDING WAS KNOWN HISTORICALLY AS THE PAYNTER'S GAS STATION. (SEE BIB. REF. A). IT IS CURRENTLY BEING USED FOR STORAGE. THE STRUCTURE, BUILT BETWEEN 1920 AND 1930 (SEE BIB. REF. A), IS CONSIDERED TO BE IN GOOD CONDITION. ACCORDING TO AN ARTICLE IN THE MINERAL POINT DEMOCRAT, THE DATE OF CONSTRUCTION WAS PINPOINTED TO BE 1925. (SEE BIB. REF. B).
