NOTES
Additional Information:Home of Francis Biron, sawmill owner. It was from Biron that the first fleet of logs traveled the river in 1849, and the last in 1887. 2023: The White House at Biron Mill was demolished in 2022. The house was built by Francis X. Biron in 1865 as his residence and was later a boarding house for mill workers. Its uses in the twentieth century include a school, a recreation center, and Consolidated Papers headquarters offices. It was razed in 2022. "The fate of the white house has been up in the air for more than eight months. In late 2021, Caleb Coder, Biron mill general manager, sent a letter to Biron Village President Jon Evenson; Phil Brown, president of the South Wood County Historical Museum; the Mead Witter Foundation; and Historic Point Basse in late 2021, and offered to sell the historic building to any of the organizations for $1 if they would move the house to a new location. The Dec. 31 deadline for the project came and went without anyone submitting a plan for removing the house. Some people expressed interest and mill management waited several months beyond the deadline to be sure no one would take on the project."
