Additional Information: | This two-story Greek Revival house has a low-pitched gable roof with a full pediment on the front facade. The house has a clapboard exterior and large corner pilasters. The front porch was a later addition and features a flat roof with two Tuscan columns. Windows are six-over-six light sashes and the entrance is decorated with a narrow transom and sidelights. This house is architecturally significant as a fine example of the Greek Revival style as it is typically seen in Wisconsin. The full pediment, regular fenestration, and simple classical decoration gives the house the main elements of the style. Even though it was probably moved to this location in the mid-twentieth century, it retains its eligibility for the National Register as one of the best examples of the style still extant in the city. Sanborn-Perris maps and city directories indicate that this house was probably moved to this location around 1942. Its concrete block foundation further supports this view. |
