| Additional Information: | Terminating the vista at the west end of first street, this building is a good example of the common Gothic Revival style that dominated church architecture in the area during the early part of the 20th century. Its tower, which is centrally located on the front facade, has multiple spires. This structure replaced an earlier church built on the site in 1877 by the same group, then known as the Trempealeau Valley Lutheran Congregation. After a split, which occurred in 1879, the group became known as Trinity Lutheran Congregation, but retained its affiliation with the Norwegian Synod, until 1889, when doctrinal controversy again split the church. In 1890, the group affiliated with the United Church, an organization formed in 1890, and became known as Zion Lutheran Church. 2024 - Late Gothic Revival style church with a rear contemporary brick school addition and a side entry addition, cross gable asphalt shingle roof, brick and stone walls and foundation, a spire, eave returns, and lancet wood windows. |
