Additional Information: | This outstanding two-story Georgian Revival house has a stucco exterior, corner quoins, a roof with returned eaves and a frieze decorated with modillions. Several arched dormers project from the roof. Windows are six-over-six-light double-hung sashes decorated with pediment lintels and shutters. The main entrance is decorated by sidelights and an elliptically-arched transom. Wooden pilasters and a thin wooden surround also decorate the entrance. A one-story sun room projects from the east wall. This house is the best example of the Georgian Revival style in the city. The symmetry of the plan, the classical details, and the elaborate entrance are all well-executed and outstanding details of the style. The high level of preservation adds to the building's significance. This house was built for John and Mary McGalloway, who lived there between 1932 and 1942. John McGalloway was an attorney who had a law office in the Commercial National Bank in Fond du Lac. He also served as a judge and from 1948 to 1949 was President of the Wisconsin State Bar. |
