Additional Information: | "Like the Carpet Mart building and Pechman Studios, the Schwalenberg Building displays a series of small rounded arches with brick corbelling, stilted arch windows (now boarded up) and a small projecting parapet. A metal canopy has been added later. The second floor apartment has been vacant for thirty-five years and has retained its original woodwork. The building is now vacant and slated to be torn down for a new shopping mall." Walking Tour Through Old Kaukauna: Two Self-Guided Historic Tours Kaukauna, Wisconsin, City of Kaukauna, 1983. Demolished. This building represented a substantial investment for one of the City's pioneer grocers, John Heiting. Built as the Heiting Grocery in 1890 as a step up from Heiting's 1886 store on the NW corner of Second and Main, the property was originally valued at $1,200. It was owned by Joseph Hoffensberger 1921-35, became the Kuehn and Simon Meat Market in 1938, and Roehrborn's Meats in 1969. |
