Additional Information: | Begun (and built as) as Livingston Department Store in 1904, name was changed to Winkelman's in 1911. Third story was added in 1936. Winkleman's closed in 1970. "Charles and Samuel Livingston opened the doors to their department store array of goods in this Commercial style building then two stories high, in 1904. In 1911, Samuel Winkelman purchased the store and gave it his name. In 1936, Samuel and Cassius Winkleman asses the third story, with its banding of chevrons and "W" (for Winkelman, not Wausau) medallions. In 1983, after restoration of the brick facade and interior renovation, the building became Washington Square, with shops and restaurants surrounding a court."
