NOTES
Additional Information: THIS TWO-STORY, GABLED HOUSE HAS AN IRREGULAR PLAN CONFIGURATION AND A GABLED, ONE-STORY WING. THE ITALIANATE-INSPIRED HOME FEATURES PAIRED EAVE-LINE BRACKETS, A BAY WINDOW AND ENTRANCE PORCHES. THE PAIRED BRACKETS APPEAR ALONG THE CORNICE OF THE GABLE ENDS, AS WELL AS ON A BAY WINDOW. THE 1884 DWELLING IS IN GOOD CONDITION. (SEE BIB. REF. A). HISTORICAL BACKGROUND: THOMAS PERKINS, A TINSMITH AND OWNER OF A HARDWARE STORE IN DODGEVILLE, WAS BORN IN CORNWALL, ENGLAND, IN 1845. HIS PARENTS CAME TO THE UNITED STATES IN 1846, SETTLED IN NEW YORK UNTIL 1848, THEN MOVED TO MINERAL POINT AND FINALLY TO DODGEVILLE IN C. 1850. IN 1864 PERKINS WENT TO MONTANA WITH A GROUP FROM DODGEVILLE, BUT RETURNED THE FOLLOWING YEAR AND OPENED HIS HARDWARE BUSINESS. (SEE BIB. REF. B). (NOTE: THOMAS PERKINS WAS A COMMON NAME IN DODGEVILLE, SO THERE IS THE DISTINCT POSSIBILITY THAT THIS IS NOT THE THOMAS PERKINS WHO OWNED THE PROPERTY).
