NOTES
Additional Information:This Queen Anne styled church is of interest, especially because of its compatibility with the residences that surround it. The building is quite intact, although a parish hall was built onto the east facade in 1960. The interior of the church was remodeled in 1974 and the basement was made into church parlors, a modern kitchen, etc. This structure was the second edifice built on this site by the Galesville Presbyterian Church, the first church established in Galesville. The congreagation is said to have been organized by Rev. J.M. Hayes in 1856. In 1859, the congregation was constituted under the pastorship of Rev. D.C. Lyon of Winona, Minnesota, who conducted services fairly regularly at homes or in the courthouse on the public square. In 1860, a resident Pastor, Rev. John Frothingham, was called, and he urged that a church edifice be built. Judge George Gale donated the lot, and subscriptions were solicited. The frame edifice was built in 1864 and eedicated January 1, 1865. This church served the congregation for 30 years, and when the presen tedifice was begun in 1895, it was sold to Alexander A. Arnold, who moved it to a lot on S. Ridge Street, where it continued to be used while the new church ws under construction. Its bell was installed in the present edifice. The old church later passed to C. Palle-Jensen who converted it into a garage and auto repair shop. Today it is a portion of the Hilt Garage, 220 S. First Street.
