NOTES
Additional Information:A FRONT-GABLED CHURCH WITH ROUNDED ARCH WINDOWS, STONE TRIM, BUTRESSING, AND A CUT STONE FOUNDATION. IT'S MOST PROMINENT FEATURE IS ITS THIN, ELONGATED END STEEPLE. "GOD BE WITH YOU" IS INSCRIBED, IN GERMAN, ON THE CORNERSTONE, AS IS THE DATE OF CONSTRUCTION. ROUND ARCH OPENINGS - THE HALLMARK OF THE ROMANESQUE STYLE - PUNCTUATE THE SIDE WALLS AND THE STEEPLE OF ST. ANDREW'S CHURCH. ST. ANDREW'S CHURCH IN TENNYSON (FORMERLY DUTCH HOLLOW) WAS ORGANIZED IN 1846 AND A "PLAIN BUT SERVICEABLE CHURCH BUILDING" ERECTED. A PAROCHIAL SCHOOL (NO LONGER STANDING) WAS ALSO CONSTRUCTED AT THIS EARLY DATE. IN 1875, DURING THE PASTORAGE OF FATHER N.A. THILL, THE PRESENT CHURCH WAS BUILT. THE ETHNIC BACKGROUND OF THE SMALL PARISH IS INDICATED IN THE CORNERSTONE INSCRIPTION WHICH INCLUDES THE PHRASE "GOD WITH YOU" IN GERMAN. IN THE FOLLOWING YEARS A NEW SCHOOL WAS CONSTRUCTED (NO LONGER STANDING), A RECTORY (1900) (50/33) AND A CONVENT (1913) (50/34). a 1925 PHOTOGRAPH OF THIS COMPLEX IS INCLUDED IN THE GRANT COUNTY BICENTENNIAL BOOK. A CHURCH CEMETERY, LOCATED DIRECTLY ACROSS FROM THE CHURCH (50/35), IS ALSO OWNED BY THE PARISH.
