Additional Information: | This house contributes to the architectural significance of the proposed Jefferson Avenue Historic District as a good example of the Queen Anne style constructed with bricks. It has the irregular form and massing of the style and some irregularity of surface materials with the gabled shingles and elaborate crosspieces. The brick construction of this house is well executed and the decorative brick arches over the many openings gives the house added detail. City directory research indicates that this house was built in about 1892 (the house does not appear on the 1891 map of Janesville but the 1892 city directory lists Harry W. Brown as living in this house). Brown was owner of Brown Bros. Shoes and Boots on East Milwaukee Street. |
