Additional Information: | The Brazee Confectionery is significant under Criterion C as a good example of commercial vernacular architecture in Merrill. This building is a contributing resource in the West Main Street Commercial Historic District. Built sometime between 1896 and 1900, this two story brick structure was first the home of Howard Brazee's confectionery. By 1905 it was the location of the Stimmer;s & Co. newsstand and bookstore. By 1930 this was the location of the Downie Insurance Company, where they remained as late as 1945. Re-surveyed in 2005. Altered retail front on first story of facade, including shed-roofed canopy and the application of vinyl siding infill around reduced-size windows. |
